Which Sticks Work with IQOS ILUMA? TEREA, HEETS and Every IQOS Generation

IQOS ILUMA works only with SMARTCORE STICKS, such as TEREA, and not with HEETS. Every ILUMA device heats a thin metal element sealed inside the stick by induction and has no heating blade. HEETS were made for the earlier, blade-heated IQOS devices and have no metal element, so an ILUMA cannot heat them. It works the other way too: IQOS warns that TEREA can damage an earlier blade-heated IQOS.

Which sticks work with IQOS ILUMA?

IQOS designs ILUMA for its SMARTCORE STICKS and states that ILUMA works with SMARTCORE STICKS only. Two lines of them matter here:

• TEREA, the tobacco sticks, in classic tobacco, menthol and capsule flavors. Every TEREA we carry is on the TEREA flavors page.
• LEVIA, sticks with no tobacco that still contain nicotine. Compare the available European cartons on our LEVIA flavors page, or read the LEVIA guide first.

IQOS lists no sticks from other makers for ILUMA, so this guide covers IQOS sticks only.

Why does IQOS ILUMA use TEREA and not HEETS?

Because of how each device heats. An ILUMA has no blade: its SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM warms the metal element sealed in the core of a SMARTCORE stick, so the tobacco is heated from within. The earlier IQOS devices push a heating blade into the tobacco of a HEETS stick. A HEETS stick has no metal element for an ILUMA to warm, and a TEREA stick is not built for a blade, so each stick only works in the device it was made for.

Can you use HEETS in IQOS ILUMA?

No. HEETS have no metal element, so no ILUMA model, old or new, can heat them. If you are moving from a blade device to ILUMA, you switch sticks as well. Our HEETS to TEREA chart shows the closest TEREA for each HEETS flavor: for HEETS Silver, Amber and Sienna, IQOS names the TEREA of the same name as the match.

Can you use TEREA in IQOS 3 DUO or another older IQOS?

No. IQOS 3 DUO, IQOS 3 MULTI, IQOS 2.4 PLUS and the IQOS ORIGINALS devices are blade-heated models made for HEETS, and IQOS warns that TEREA can damage an earlier blade-heated IQOS. TEREA is for ILUMA devices only.

Do all ILUMA models take the same sticks?

Yes. The earlier ILUMA, ILUMA PRIME and ILUMA ONE and the current ILUMA i PRIME, ILUMA i and ILUMA i ONE all use the same SMARTCORE INDUCTION SYSTEM, so compatible TEREA and LEVIA sticks fit any of them. Owners of an earlier ILUMA model should keep its firmware up to date for the intended LEVIA experience. How can you tell which IQOS you have?

Check the model name on the box or in your IQOS account, and look at what goes into the device. In an ILUMA, a stick sits with no blade inside the opening. The earlier models have a heating blade in the holder, which is what a HEETS stick slides onto. If your device has a blade, it takes HEETS; if it is an ILUMA, it takes TEREA.

Are LEVIA sticks compatible with IQOS ILUMA?

Yes. LEVIA are SMARTCORE STICKS too, so an ILUMA device heats them the same way as TEREA.

Does IQOS ILUMA i need different sticks from the older ILUMA?

No. ILUMA i, ILUMA i PRIME and ILUMA i ONE take the same compatible TEREA and LEVIA sticks as the earlier ILUMA models. For LEVIA, keep an earlier ILUMA device's firmware up to date.

Can I use TEREA in IQOS ORIGINALS DUO?

No. IQOS ORIGINALS DUO is a blade-heated device for HEETS.
